We can't make progress on what we can't see. I've spent my life uncovering signals buried in noise: tiny ripples in spacetime, meaningful insights within vast datasets, and the invisible pain of billions of humans and other animals. I use data and technology in creative ways to reveal these hidden stories, so we can ultimately reduce suffering in the world.
I'm Principal Data Scientist at Our World in Data, a publication that reaches tens of millions of readers every year. I'm also the founder of AltruFísica and serve on the board of the Welfare Footprint Institute. I hold a PhD in astrophysics, and I've pledged 🔸 to donate 10% of my income to the most effective charities.
What I do
Principal Data Scientist
Our World in Data
Research and data to make progress against the world's largest problems. I build and maintain much of OWID's data on energy, food, animal welfare, and more.
My work at OWID →Creator
AltruFísica
My YouTube channel on science and effective altruism, in Spanish: physics, data, and how to do good better.
Watch the channel →Board member & Secretary
Welfare Footprint Institute
Science to quantify animal welfare, so we can make better decisions about how we treat other sentient beings.
About the institute →Pianist & composer
Music
I studied piano for many years. I've composed piano pieces, and arranged and mixed an album with Mel Brennan, available on Spotify.
